DAY 2 - MONDAY - SEPT 09, 2024
ROCHESTER NY |
Day 2 of our September 2024 Road Trip started out in Rochester
NY. Our early start, brought us down to the Port of Rochester, near the channel leading to Lake Ontario. The USCG has a station here. The Rochester FIREBOAT has a new dock since the last time we were
here. We were able to successfully photograph the boat, before
heading out and westward. |

Lakeside State Park NY - Overlooking Lake Ontario |
On the way from Rochester to Buffalo, we found a small State Park on the shore of Lake Ontario. One of our goals on this trip is to touch the waters of each of the five Great Lakes. This was a beautiful spot to appreciate this amazing lake. |
Apple Farms - North Shore of NY State along Lake Ontario |
We often under appreciate where some of our food comes from.
Along the north shore of New York state, we got to see where some of
our apples come from. Just by luck, we ended up turning onto a road named 'Crosby' which would become another theme of this trip. |
BUFFALO NY |
We continued west, stopping in the City of Buffalo NY. On
previous visits, we had visited the Oldest Fireboat still in active
service. The Edward M Cotter was built in 1900 and is now 124 years
old and still in service, serving as a FIREBOAT and also as an Ice
Breaker. We caught the tail end of a little thunder storm, prior to a brief visit to see the Historic Fireboat. Nice visit, included purchase of a T-shirt and patches. |
FIREBOAT COUNT: (2) For Day / (3) For Trip |
HAMBURG NY - Gas Stop at Crosby's |
Heading further west from Buffalo, we needed gas, and randomly
pulled off at en exit in a place called Hamburg NY. The first gas station we came upon, caught our attention, so we filled up and took a few photos. |
CLEVELAND OH |
From Buffalo, we traveled west and arrived at one of our
favorite cities. We knew that Cleveland has a new Fireboat. We went
to the old Station 21, which was home to the previous Fireboat
"Anthony J Celebrezze", which retired in 2023. The new FIREBOAT was not there. But, we soon found it down by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. It is uncertain whether or not Marine 21 is permanently relocated or if only temporary. We successfully photographed the new boat and then headed on further west. We met up with a good friend for dinner, and then landed in the Sandusky OH area for Night 2.
