Our Tokyo Trip - Day 2 - Part 1

Morning Mission
Papa got up early on Day 2 of our Tokyo Trip, and headed out on a mission.

The largest Tokyo Fireboat Station is known as the Rinko Station. It is not too far from our hotel.
The rest of the family has other plans, so Papa was on his own this morning.

First we board the tram. Then we will get on a bus. Then we will do some walking. Here we go.

We got on the Tram from our hotel (U-07) at 07:20.

The tram went by a few stations. We got off it at the Shin-Toyosu (U-15) stop.
From there, a little walk to a local bus station.

Harumi
One of the large islands (man made?) in Tokyo is called Harumi. The bus route took me here, within walking distance of the Tokyo Rinko Fire Station which protects the area, and is home to Tokyo's largest Fireboats.

This area was to play a major role in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (messed up by Covid).
The area continues to develop and evolve with many interesting skyscrapers being built.

Tokyo FD - Rinko Fire Station
The Tokyo FD Rinko Fire Station is an impressive Fire Station. The station is only a few years old.

I arrived early, and was around as the station came to life with morning apparatus apparatus checks.

The Emergency Number in Japan is 1-1-9. Similar to the USA 9-1-1.

Tokyo Fireboats
The Tokyo Fire Department has about 9 Fireboats. There are (3) Fireboat Stations. The Rinko Station was completely rebuilt a few years ago and is home to several boats including the largest vessels.

The complex has several floating docks, and other facilities to support boat operations.

The Tokyo Fire Department has several smaller boats used for rescue and dive operations.

At the Rinko Station, the "Shubuki" can be  recognized by its rather square looking windows.
The other boat "Hrumi" has the larger, rounded side windows.

Fireboat "Miyakodoi"
The Largest Tokyo Fireboat "Miyakodoi" was away from the dock this morning.
It would be docked where the red box is.  We will have to come back another day to see it.

This interesting buildings make a great landmark.

The Tokyo Fireboat "Oedo" is the second largest vessel in the Tokyo Fireboat fleet.

A small inflatable type boat is also at the docks.

Rinko Fire Apparatus
The Rinko Fire Station has several apparatus. The crews were doing their morning apparatus checks. We were able to talk with them a little and shared a patch with them.

The Primary Engine, was a pumper equipped with a water tank, ground ladder, and an assortment of equipment. Engines are typically staffed with 4 personnel.

A secondary, reserve Engine.

A Command vehicle.

A Command Car.

The ambulance.

This Ladder Truck is not assigned to the Rinko Station. It is from a near by station and just happened to stop by Rinko while we were there. Arigato!

A nice visit at Rinko. Time to get back to the family.

Returning to Grand Nikko
After visiting the Rinko Station, we walked up the street to a bus stop and made our way back to the Grand Nikko Hotel.

Along the way, was this interesting looking structure. It is very tall (180 meters / 590 feet), triangular in shape, and does not appear to have any windows.

After a little search, it turns out this is the Chou Incinerator. A clean energy, waste management system that handles as much as 600 tons of trash a day, without any pollution. Very interesting.

Each of the 23 Wards in Tokyo apparently has similar facilities.

Back at the Grand Nikko
We not only got out early, made it over to the Rinko Station, and found the Fireboats, but we also made it back to the hotel "in time" to meet up with the family and prepare for the rest of the planned activities today.

The rounded hotel front and center is the Hilton Tokyo. The Rainbow Bridge behind it. In the upper right are several recognizable buildings that are near the Rink Fire Station.

Off in the distance, are several of the high rise buildings in the Harumi area, served by the Rinko Fire Station. More examples of interesting building designs that are fun to look at and recognize.

Down by the shore is the Statue of Liberty.

Lobby of Grand Nikko.

The Tram to Downtown
We have several great things planned in Tokyo today.

First, we took the Tram back over the Rainbow Bridge and on towards "Downtown" in Tokyo.

There probably isn't really such as thing as "downtown" Tokyo. but we are going into the city.

On the Rainbow Bridge

There is that Tokyo Takanawa Fireboat Station again, viewed from the Rainbow Bridge.

Rainbow Bridge.

Looking back across the bay from the Tram. That is the Rinko Fireboat Station.

Many cranes in the background continue to build a new skyline.

That is the Tokyo Tower.

There are many train tracks.

Shimbashi Station (U-01) is where the Yurikamome Line starts in Tokyo.

Shimbashi Station. Every train station is different and beautiful in its own way.

Down below, we board a subway to our next destination.
