Today's Mission - Fireboats
With our big family trips out of the way, we had some flexible days to do other things.

Today, Papa is off to find some more Fireboats on the list. First up, Kawasaki.

A combination of trains, buses, and walking.

Kawasaki Fireboats
The City of Kawasaki is between Yokohama and Tokyo. These boats are docked in a remote, industrial area that is best accessed by bus.

Kawasaki Fireboat - "Kawasaki"
The larger of the two Kawasaki City Fireboats is called the "Kawasaki." Impressive.

Kawasaki Fireboat - "Umikaze"
The smaller vessel if the "Umikaze."  Still looks like a powerful force when needed.

Shinagawa Station
Another big train station. Shinagawa in Tokyo.

Into Tokyo
On the way to those Fireboats we could see from the Rainbow Bridge. Another combination of trains and buses, and more walking to get there.

Rainbow Bridge - Takanawa Fireboats
The "Loop" leading up to the Rainbow Bridge can be seen to the left. Vehicles and the tram get up onto the bridge by going around the loop. From there, the Tokyo Fireboat Station at Takanawa in front and center.

It is typical to see training underway in early afternoon. A Ladder Truck is practicing at this station.

Tokyo Fireboat - "Ariake"
One of the two Takanawa Fireboats is the "Ariake."

Tokyo Fireboat - "Kachidoki"
The other Takanawa Fireboat is the "Kachidoki." The guys were great and took me aboard to see the vessel.

We had seen this station several times from the Rainbow Bridge before finally making it here.

Well worth this visit!

Tokyo Ladder Truck
This Ladder Truck was actually from another station, but was taking advantage of this facility to train. The aerial is about 32 meters (roughly 100 ft) with a basket at the top.

Would you like to go for a ride?
The words were different, but the message was clear. I was provided a helmet and ladder belt and taken for a great ride up overlooking Tokyo Harbor and the Takanawa Fireboats from above.

Takanawa Station
Crews spend the afternoon training and handling calls.

Other Boats
There were some other boats near by. They are equipped with deckguns. Not sure what agency or service they are associated with.

Incinerator
Nearby the Takanawa Fire Station it another tall, attractive structure with no windows.
Another trash incinerator.
