MORE FOOD

PAGE 1 - DAY 3 - SEPT

There are many restaurants and shops to explore.

Sushi Lunch in Zushi
Our first Sushi experience is at a place called Kappa Sushi.

We are definitely new to all of this.

Essentially, there is an iPad like device with the full menu (in pictures) at each table.
Simply click on any item, indicate how many, and places an order.
In a minute or two, a chime indicates that your order is arriving on the conveyer belt next to you.
You then simply grab your order, and start eating. Order several times if you wish.

When all is said and done, the bill is based on the number of plates used.
Each plate is color coded, reflecting the value of each item.

We experienced a good deal of sushi, and the bill was very affordable. That was easy!

We tried a lot of different Sushi. All yummy!

Another word we learned and used often is "OISHI!" (Oy-she).
Which means Delicious!

Ice Cream
After sushi, another treat. Ice cream. Interesting flavors of Japan.

Ramon for Lunch
After a successful train ride, we popped into a little local restaurant for our first Ramon Noodles meal. A combination of soft noodles, a couple pieces of pork, some green stuff (seaweed?) and a half soft boiled egg. It is eaten mostly with chop sticks. Great flavor! "OISHI" Delicious!

One of the local shops where you can buy some fresh fish.

Grocery Shopping - Comparisons
We went to a Japanese grocery store to get some supplies.

The first thing about the store, was the four attendants, appropriately stationed with light wands, who help guide you to a parking spot inside the garage. They also let you know when it is safe to re-enter the street. Nice touch.

The wide variety, freshness, and presentation of many of the items was impressive.
The pricing, at this point, was still difficult to appreciate in relative terms, but was not bad when all said and done.

The shopping carts are smaller and lighter than US carts. They had 4 spinning wheels, making them very easy to use. The carts carry (2) good sized plastic baskets that you place your items in as you shop. When you get to checkout, the basket in placed on a counter. The clerk scans each item, and places everything in another basket (paid color plastic). You pay, and then take your baskets to another counter where you bag your stuff, using your own bags or available plastic bags.

Very efficient and orderly.

Many items, like fruit, are individually wrapped. If you only need one, you don't have to buy three.

The package of pork meat lower middle is priced at 504 Yen (544 Yen with tax) or about $3.65 US.

The package of beef lower middle is priced at 945 Yen or about $6.35 US. Plenty of meat for several people to enjoy.

Cartons of eggs. 10 eggs per carton for about 321 Yen or $2.15 US. 6 egg cartons for a little less.
And they are very fresh!

A prepared meal for 429 Yen or $2.87 US.  853 Yen (tax included) is about $5.70 US.

Osaka Sushi prepared meals for $429 Yen or about $2.87 US. A very filling, satisfying meal.

They sell beer in the grocery store. A six pack of Sapporo beer for 1163 Yen would be $7.77 US.
Harder stuff can be found around the corner.

Lunch in Tokyo
A lunch break in Tokyo also turned into an opportunity to get out of the heat for a little bit.
We found this place inside one of the air conditioned high rise towers.
Another Ramon Noodle type meal.

Curry Dinner
This time, we enjoyed a curry meal at the CoCo Curry House.
CoCo is a chain type place.  "Oishi" once again.

Dinner in Tokyo
We took a pass on the Tacos tonight.  Instead, we walked over to a nearby shopping center. Several floors up, was a really cool restaurant.

It looks delicious... and has not even been cooked yet!

There are two grills at the table. We get to cook our own meals.

Lunch in Kobe
We enjoyed a nice lunch at the hotel restaurant. Once we got settled in our rooms, on the 16th floor. The views of the harbor were amazing.

So after a lot of walking and missing dinner, I opted for a bag of chips - Sour Cream and Onion would hit the spot. I went with the packaging color at the nearby 7-11.

Back at the room, a closer look revealed the actual flavor. Salt and Seaweed Flavor. Hmmm.
Washed down with a couple cold adult beverages. Satisfied the need.

Lunch in Hiroshima
We enjoyed one of our best "Fancy Lunches" at the ANA Crowne Plaza. The restaurant was located on the 5th floor of the hotel. Outside was an impressive Coy pool and garden on the roof of the building.

Fancy Lunch
We experienced a very tasty "Quality, not Quantity" type meal. A variety of lots of interesting dishes (some unidentified), with just enough to please, but not so much to over do. Best meal of the trip!

Craft Beers
We found a local Craft Beer place. And it was good.

Hotel Beer Garden
The ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel had a roof top "Beer Garden" restaurant. We had a little meal overlooking the city at sunset.
