DAY 16
A selfie at "old faithful"
DAY 16 - SEPT 17 - SATURDAY We woke up before sunrise again. In fact, it was still quite dark out except for the light from the full moon. We noticed some low water pressure and quickly figured out that out water hose had frozen up with the 29 degree temperatures outside. The camper itself was coated in frost. We packed up and headed into the town of West Yellowstone for breakfast at the "Running Bear" which we had heard and read about as a must do. After an absolutely amazing breakfast, we reentered Yellowstone again and were soon pulling off at every turn to see the wildlife. Finally we made it to the "old faithful" geyser and after waiting a rather short time, got to see this historically reliable feature of nature do its thing. Very cool. We continued south thru the park and into an area that had recently burned in a fire known as the "Berry Fire" that burned over 20,000 acres over a month. There was still some smoke in the air. South of Yellowstone is Grand Teton National Park with its spectacular peaks. We continued into Jackson Hole and then made our way up the steep Wilson pass over the mountains and into Idaho. Our only other experience with Idaho was in 2000 when we passed through the narrow northern section of the state. We wanted to see more of the state this trip so we planned to do a southern loop thru the state on out way towards the northwest. We visited Idaho Falls and continued south on
I-86 ending up in a campground in Pocatello, Idaho for Night 16.
