DAY 13

Our journey through the Canadian Rockies

DAY 13 - SEPT 14 - WEDNESDAY    (Our 31st Anniversary!)
We had two options when leaving Calgary. The original plan would have taken us directly south from Calgary into Montana and Glacier National Park. After giving it some thought, we decided instead to go west across the Canadian Rockies into British Columbia today and then head south into Montana, even though we will be west of Glacier.

By doing so, we would add British Columbia by camper now, and then when we go back into BC to Vancouver in a week or so we can do that by car which will make getting around the city easier. So up into the beautiful mountains we went.

We stopped in Banff to look around and have some lunch. It is a pretty little town which has a European look and feel. After lunch we headed across the British Columbia border and into the beautiful scenery.

Soon enough we were back into the USA and into Montana.  We found our way to a campground at Whitefish, MT for Night 13.

STATES/PROVINCES: AB, *BC*, *MT* - (2) Provinces {1 new} and (1) State {new} for the day
                                        (17) different States and (4) Provinces so far.
DISTANCE:  365 miles for the Day / 4339 miles for Trip so far
FIREBOATS: (13) so far

This Black Billed Magpie was hanging out with us at the Calgary campground.

Morning coffee

More hay bales - shrink wrapped - on the way up into the Canadian Rockies

We appreciated the Canadian highways.  For the most part, they were all well maintained,
well designed with adequate breakdown lanes, and were just plain pleasant to drive on
compared to many of the roads we've traveled.

Canmore, AB Fire Station

Breathtaking

A stop in Banff for lunch

Banff Fire Station

The guys at Banff were doing hose testing. One took our picture on our anniversary.
I miss doing hose test....

Looks like a good sandwich shop

As good as advertised!

Scallywags indeed

A bridge built for wildlife to cross the highway safely.

The Continental divide

Welcome to British Columbia (BC)

Happy Anniversary!

On the backside of the Rockies we stopped to see an engine in Fairmont.
It was also hose testing day here.

There are some beautiful lakes up here

Out of the corner of my eye I spotted a doe on the left side of the road. Once she
figured it was safe, looking both ways, she and two fawns crossed the street.

Welcome back to the USA!

Into Montana for another sticker.
