Oak Bluffs new 2007 Metz aerial was delivered in July 2007
It replaced the 1958 Maxim open cab ladder. 
The new Metz is similar to the Nantucket Metz
but is not a quint.

New Oak Bluffs Fire Boat

The Oak Bluffs Emergency Management operates a
police - fire  - rescue boat in the harbor.
It is a 2004 39'6" Metal Craft Marine Aluminum boat
with twin diesels and dual jet propulsion.
It is equipped with a 500 gpm fire pump and 20 gals Foam.

The Oak Bluffs is another of the towns to receive a
2005 Wells Cargo DEP Spill containment trailer.

 
O.B.F.D. Plans

Oak Bluffs will be looking to replace one of the Island's
oldest fire apparatus in the next couple years.
The 1958 Maxim 75' aerial Ladder 1 would be replaced.
No specifics yet, although there is mention of a
possible Metz aerial ladder to replace the classic Maxim.

New Oak Bluffs Engine
Oak Bluffs put this Emergency One pumper in service as Engine 4 (524)
in 2003 replacing a 1961 Maxim S pumper. The new engine has a 1500 gpm
pump and 750 gallon tank.

Oak Bluffs Fire Station

Oak Bluffs Fire Station
(Opened in 2015)

The new Oak Bluffs Fire Station has been completed and the department
moved into the new $8.3 Million, 20,000+ square foot, 12 bay station
on December 6, 2015.  The station is located on the site of the previous
station at Wing Road and County Road. Construction took just 1 year
while the department worked out of the DPW garage and other temporary
quarters.  The station has been dedicated the Nelson W. Amaral Fire/EMS
Station in memory of the retired chief who served the department for
54 years, 34 as chief. The station is equipped with essential office,
living, classroom, and other space that the previous station lacked.

Oak Bluffs Selects Fire Chief

FIRE CHIEF NELSON WIRTZ
Oak Bluffs Fire Department will have a new Fire Chief.
Chatham Fire Department Captain/Paramedic W. F. Nelson Wirtz
was selected by the Town of Oak Bluffs to lead the Fire Department.
Wirtz has been in the fire service since 1996 and has been an active
member and leader in the Cape Cod Special Rescue Team.

Oak Bluffs Interim Fire Chief

OAK BLUFFS INTERIM FIRE CHIEF
Retired Bourne Fire Chief Martin Greene
has be selected to serve the Town of Oak Bluffs
beginning next month as their Interim Fire Chief.
He served as Bourne Fire Chief 2011-2015
and as a Deputy and member for many years
prior to that. He also worked with the Mass.
District 1 Haz Mat Team for many years.

Oak Buffs Fire Department Fire Chief John Rose
has stepped down after serving as Chief since 2013.

VINEYARD GAZETTE STORY

The OBFD Deputy Chief Shawn Broadly has also announced
he is also departing as of Feb 17, 2020.

Assistant Chief Manuel Rose is expected to take over
command of the department in February as the town
looks for an interim chief.
