1 - South to the Sunshine State

WINTER 2021
The Winter of 2021 brought several little snow storms to Cape Cod.
After getting the opportunity to clear the driveway a few times, thoughts
went to going South for a family visit and 2nd birthday. The trip would also
include tracking down some new fireboats and seeing some new places.

ROAD TRIP - FLORIDA - MARCH 2021

1 - South to the Sunshine State
2 - On My Own. Around the Gulf Coast
3 - On My Own. New Orleans Area
4 - On My Own. Why Not Crosby Texas!
5 - On My Own. Mississippi to Louisville
6 - On My Own. Vintage Fire Museum, Jeffersonville, IN
7 - On My Own. To Cincinnati and Beyond.

FIRST STOP DELAWARE
We left home on February 23, 2021 making our way South to Florida with a few stops along the way.
Our first night landed up in Newark, Delaware which is home to the University of Delaware.
The following morning we found a couple fire stations before getting on the highway again.

Cool old station on a chilly morning.

Almost across the street from the previous station.

VIRGINIA
We were looking for a couple fireboats along the way, but it was still Winter so most of the
boats on the list were not available this trip.

FLORIDA
We stopped in Deland, (Volusia County) Florida to visit some friends.
Deland is building a new Fire Headquarters which is coming along nicely.

Deland has taken delivery of a really sharp looking Pierce Tower Ladder for T-81.

PORT CANAVERAL
On the way farther South, we made a stop at Port Canaveral to see if their new Metal Shark
Fireboat had come in yet.  We spotted it across the bay and found our way to it. As it worked out,
we were able to get the full tour of this impressive 75' 10,500 GPM fireboat that had been delivered
only weeks before and was still not yet in service pending setup and training of personnel.

A little farther South to Palm Beach County and some of their stations and apparatus.
Special Operations at Station 19.

MIAMI-DADE FIREBOAT 21
I had heard that Miami-Dade had taken delivery of their new Metal Shark 55' 8,500 gpm Fireboats.
A drive South found the (green) new Fireboat 21 at its dock and then heading out for some training.

2 YEARS OLD
We were able to be in Florida to enjoy the 2nd birthday of Jackson in early March.

A little Grandfather time.

Everybody's Happy at the playground.

PALM BEACH COUNTY
Back in Palm Beach County. A temporary station for Station #9.

A new Station #22 has been completed.

West Palm Beach Station #8 has also been completed.

Palm Beach County Station #17 changed a little since my last visit. The open concept is the same
but the trailer is now on the northside instead of the southside.

MIAMI-DADE FIREBOATS
My first trip down to Miami-Dade had found Fireboat 21, but I could not make the connection
to see the second new boat, Fireboat 73. A couple weeks later I returned and got a great
tour of the new boat which included a special ride around Miami harbor and a great photo
opportunity of both of Miami-Dade's boats together!

With a little help from this guy I was able to get great photos of the boats under way.

Miami-Dade Fireboat 73

Miami-Dade Fireboat 73 and Fireboat 21 face to face.

MIAMI CITY
The City of Miami also had taken delivery of new Fireboats recently.
Fireboat 15 and 25 at their dock.

Overall a very successful day in Miami!

PALM BEACH COUNTY
Back in Palm Beach County, a good looking new Engine 19 on the ramp with Special Hazards.

Engine 16 out on a medical call.

Brush 16

1940 AMERICAN LAFRANCE
This great looking 1940 American LaFrance pumper is normally inside the Fire Museum
at Palm Beach Gardens Headquarters. Today it was out in the sunshine and looking amazing.
