A Day Off
It was still September 10 back home, but we took our September 11 here to enjoy the playground and some simpler family time. A good day to rest up for more to come.

Getting Around by Car
There are certainly some advantages to getting around by train. But, sometimes it can be much easier and more practical to travel around by car. One of the advantages is seeing more of the countryside and how people live. Getting to those homes on the hill must be interesting....

If you lived up on the hill, you would almost be home now! Carrying in the groceries would be interesting!  It is amazing how every bit of land is used with purpose.

Yokosuka Fire Stations
We passed one of the Yokosuka City Fire Stations (Shobosho) frequently. This station is in an area known as Taura. It is equipped with an Engine, Ladder, Rescue Truck, and several support vehicles.

The crew, dressed in orange jumpsuits, are preparing to check their apparatus and equipment.
They also meet to go over concerns, training, exercising and stretching together, and everything else that goes on at a firehouse.

Back at Ikego. The crew is out in Engine 2-1 doing inspections.

Japanese Calligraphy Class
One of the fun things we did, was to take a little class on Japanese Calligraphy. Using a paint brush, and some black ink, to form the characters that represent words and more.

Later, we also took a class on Japanese language. A school day for us all.

Our instructor gave us a few demonstrations and then let us try it out.

LOVE

We learned that each character is created with specific types of strokes and directions.
The brushes were fairly large and the paper quite thin.
The ink is made essentially from charcoal and fortunately cleans with soap and water.

This one means LOVE.

Sometimes you can hold a phone up using Google Translate and it will confirm Love.
Other times it just says Like?!  Go Figure!

We got a few minutes instruction and then about an hour to practice.

Essentially tracing, but that is how to learn the brush strokes.

LOVE, or LIKE. Either way, we had a great time.

It was a fun morning.

Yokosuka City Fire Bureau HQ
Yokosuka City Fire Headquarters is an impressive building with a large compliment of apparatus.

In the afternoon, after some shopping, we made a quick stop at this fire station for some photos.

There is a large compliment of apparatus.

One of the interesting things here, is that there are no overhead doors. Apparatus almost looks like they are parked where doors would be closing. On closer examination, it looks like the door system comes from both sides of the station on tracks and wraps around in front of the apparatus. I did not see this happen. Thankfully, the doors are usually open and apparatus is on display.

To Hakkei for Dinner
This evening, we once again went a couple stops into Hakkei for dinner.

Hakkei Station (KK-50). A tram line comes in over the bus station.

Curry Dinner
This time, we enjoyed a curry meal at the CoCo Curry House.
CoCo is a chain type place.  "Oishi" once again.

Around Hakkei Station
A tram line coming in over the water to meet the rail lines at HAKKEI Station.
There is always something coming or going to watch.

The tram is coming in overhead.

Let's go home.
