DAY 5 - Saturday
SEPTEMBER 17
HENDERSON, NY
Day 5 began with a little drive back to the shores of Lake Ontario.
Henderson Harbor has a little Boston Whaler fireboat.
The Henderson Fire Station.
OSWEGO NY
Another possible boat was in nearby Oswego.
The Oswego River runs thru the middle of the city with a fire station on each
side.
Oswego Headquarters
Oswego Station 2
Oswego does in fact have a fireboat. It is usually staffed by the Station 2
crew.
Unfortunately, it was out of service this time.
BREWERTON NY
Brewerton is on the west end of Oneida Lake, not too far from the Syracuse area.
Brewerton has a Fireboat
CICERO NY
I wonder if this is the station where that green ladder truck at Old Forge
lives?
SKANEATELES NY
There are several "Finger Lakes" and some of them are pretty large.
At the top end of Skaneateles Lake (which means Long Lake) is the town of
Skaneateles
and as we drove through, all the apparatus was parked out in the sunshine.
That was easy!
Skaneateles is right on the lake shore.
It is a popular tourist area with lots of boating.
Skaneateles has a fireboat.
UNION SPRINGS NY
Union Springs is located on the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake.
It is probably the largest of the Finger Lakes.
The Fire Department has a nice large station and some good looking apparatus.
Union Springs Fireboat
Great looking fireboat.
There are a few more boats on the list, but at this point it
was time to head back east
and make our way towards home.
We really appreciated so much of the communities we drove through.
There is so much history. There are so many farms and hard working folks out
there.
The scenery is spectacular. So many people take great pride in their lawns and
homes.
New York is such a large state with so many different things to enjoy.
We ran out of day and ended up staying Night 5 just outside of Albany.
DAY 6 - Sunday
SEPTEMBER 18
VERDOY NY
Since we were still in the Albany area, we should try a few more boats.
We went to a little place called Verdoy and found two boats on one dock!
A good find, literally in the outskirts of town.
ALBANY NY
So we are here. ONE MORE TRY for that fireboat.
Downtown fire station in the State Capitol.
Unfortunately the ELUSIVE Albany Fireboat remains on the TO DO LIST.
It was out of service and not to be found today.
ALBANY
The Delaware Avenue neighborhood is home to Engine 9 & Ladder 4 & Rescue 9.
The ornate fire house was built back in 1912 and is known as"The Big House."
It is a spectacular structure that represents the importance and value of
firefighters protecting a neighborhood.
Made it home safely.
About 1,500 miles of sightseeing, looking for and at fireboats
and so much more.
LIFE IS A JOURNEY!
