DAY 3 - Thursday

SEPTEMBER 15

PORT JEFFERSON

Day 3 began early. Before sunrise.
We had reservations for the 07:00 ferry to Bridgeport.

Danfords Hotel & Marina early morning.

Early morning Port Jefferson habor.

Before heading to the ferry, a quick check on the Port Jefferson Fireboat.
Still where it belongs, protecting a busy harbor.

Time to get to the ferry.

Sunrise over Port Jefferson

The next ferry coming in as we are pulling out.

Heading out into Long Island Sound from Port Jeff.

Another lighthouse in the middle of Long Island Sound.

BRIDGEPORT, CT

Bridgeport is easily recognized from a distance.

The Bridgeport Fireboat is docked next to the ferry terminal.
The early ferry will allow us to find several other fireboats today.

DANBURY, CT

Danbury recently put a nice fireboat in service on the south end of Candlewood Lake.
Candlewood Lake is the largest lake in Connecticut and is beautiful.
Several departments have boats on the large lake.

SQUANTZ CT

One of the hopeful boats is housed inside the Squantz Fire Station
on the west side of the lake.
Marine 10 is a Harbor Guard boat.
Unfortunately, no one home.

SHERMAN CT

Near the top end of Candlewood Lake is Sherman.

The Sherman CT Fireboat

Sherman Fire Station

DOVER PLAINS NY

From Sherman, we headed for Poughkeepsie NY to find another boat.
The journey (thanks to GPS navigation) took us through some interesting
and beautiful places traveling on all sorts of roads.

This cool looking fire station represents so much of our country that is farmland.

POUGHKEEPSIE NY

The City of Poughkeepsie is on the east side of the Hudson River.

The Poughkeepsie Fireboat "Marine 1" is a Harbor Guard boat.

We took that bridge over the Hudson to thewest side of the river and headed north.

ESOPUS NY

This fire station caught the eye and we made a stop to look in the windows.
Some lime green stuff in there.

Behind the Osopus station was an old Pirsch Ladder Truck

It is not unusual to find some old fire trucks just rusting away roadside.
If they could talk. What would be their stories?

This old (inactive) firehouse was in a little neighborhood near the
Rondout Yacht Basin on Rondout Creek just south of Kingston NY.

KINGSTON, NY

The goal was to find a fireboat in Kingston. The visit to the Rondout Basin was a
non-productive quess. Heading into Kingston itself, I spotted this fireboat near a bench
on the side of the road. The "Don K."  No idea what the story is behind it, but interesting.

KINGSTON, NY

Kingston Fire Station #3, home to Engine 3, a reserve engine, and a Haz Mat unit.
The station is close to the "creek" and probably staffs a boat when needed.

The search for the Kingston boat was unsuccessful,
but the waterfront had several restaurants and made a good lunch stop.

Some of the scenic old buildings along the waterfront in Kingston.

We found the Kingston Fire Headquarters.
A classic old brick firehouse, with a similar attached non-fire house.

We found out the Kingston boat was not far from where we had lunch.
Oh well, we will find it next time.

We headed north towards Albany.
Albany has a Fireboat. It has been on the list for awhile.
Unfortunately it is hard to get to and there are a few others in that area.
We will skip Albany today.

QUAKER SPRINGS NY

The Quaker Springs Fire Department is located on the north end of the Saratoga Lake.
They have some nice looking yellow apparatus.

The Quaker Springs FD keeps a Fireboat on Saratoga Lake.

LAKE GEORGE NY

Lake George is a destination. It is a beautiful and fun place to visit.
We have been before years ago.

A fleet of law enforcement boats from many different agencies are docked here.

This is a great way to see the lake. Not tonight.

The "Minne Ha Ha"

The Lake George Fire Department Fireboat.

NIGHT 3

We found a nice hotel downtown and enjoyed the stay.
