LAKE GEORGE NY
Day 4 starts out in Lake George.
Lake George Fire Station.
THE ADIRONDACKS
We have seen some very pretty country over the past few days, but we have really
been
looking forward to driving across the Adirondacks. We had never done that
before.
The goal is to get to a few boats on the other side, but first we want to enjoy
the sights.
The Hudson River starts up here. The trees are starting to turn as Fall approaches.
Adirondack Lake.
Stuff to do up here.
INDIAN LAKE NY
There are so many beautiful lakes and rivers in the Adirondacks
The Indian Lake Volunteer Fire Department is named after one of them.
One of the interesting things was the open marketing of Adirondack stuff in some
of the
small villages. You could find almost anything if you were looking for it.
Just beautiful country.
BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE
I don't know if they have a boat, but I bet they could use one now and then.
RAQUETTE LAKE, NY
The Raquette Lake VFD They will be building a new fire station
right across the street from this old one.
A sea plane on the lake.
There was a long section of the road that was interesting.
Every one of these poles had a sign on it.
In most cases the signs were way above normal reading height.
Is that because of the amount of snow they might get?
Apparently there must have been a problem once or twice in the past.
EAGLE BAY NY
Another station on a lake.
OLD FORGE, NY
The primary motivation for crossing the Adirondacks had been to find a newly
delivered
fireboat, seen online, in Old Forge.
We had no idea whether we would find it or not, but knew the drive would be fun.
We found the Old Forge Fireboat and got the photos just fine.
What we DID NOT KNOW and had to laugh instantly when coming into town
was that a kind of huge FIRE SCHOOL EVENT was going on in town.
Sort of an annual convention or something will venders, food, and classes
going on. It was a TOTAL SURPRISE. Part of the Great Adventure!
There were fire trucks and firefighters all over.
Even Robyn loves a good surprise!
Definitely Two Thumbs Up!
YUP! STILL IN THERE!
YES IT IS!
I liked our little visit to Old Forge.
OTTER LAKE NY
Continuing west, we saw another truck parked outside the Otter Lake Fire
Station.
Worth a quick stop.
If Only....
ALEXANDRIA BAY NY
Coming out of the Adirondacks, we drove north to Alexandria Bay on the St
Lawrence River.
Not far from the Canada border and about as far north as we will go this trip.
ALEXANDRIA BAY
We found the Alex Bay Fire Station and one of their boats.
ALEXANDRIA BAY NY
Another fireboat I had seen once online that looked interesting.
It took a little doing to find it, but it was unique and worth the drive.
BOLDT CASTLE
Just off the shore of Alexandria Bay is a small island called Heart Island.
The Boldt Castle and other structures sit out in the middle of the St Lawrence
River.
Under Water Recovery and law enforcement boats in Alex Bay.
Sunken Rock Lighthouse off Alex Bay
Every unit has a boat garage under it!
CLAYTON NY
Another fireboat on the list is at Clayton.
Clayton is on the St Lawrence River west of Alexander Bay.
I knew they had a boat and I think MetalCraft had built fireboats in town.
Clayton EMS
The Clayton Fireboat is a MetalCraft boat built not far from here in Kingston,
Ontario.
Good looking boat.
SACKETS HARBOR NY
Out on the shores of Lake Ontario is Sackets Harbor.
They recently got a used fireboat from the Ozarks in Missouri.
The Sackets Harbor Fireboat is called the "Buckaroo."
Day 4 ended in Watertown, NY.
Great hotel choices and restaurant options.
A successful day.
