Martha's Vineyard Airport is protected by approximately 10 personnel assigned to Operations with 24 hour coverage at the airport - primary operational hours 0600-2200 hrs.  The airport dates back to the 1940s when the Navy operated it.  Some crash/firefighting equipment has existed at the airport since that time, although true ARFF capabilities date to the 1970s, and to a much greater extent since the airport underwent a major modernization around 2000.

Personnel operate (2) in service, modern ARFF units.  Both units have full ARFF capabilities and carry generator/lighting plants and Hurst Jaws tools.  One older ARFF truck is still on the property but is currently not in service.
