Tisbury, with its large harbor and commercial district known as Vineyard Haven, is one of the older and more populated towns on the island. The ferry comes into Vineyard Haven bringing cars, supplies, and tourists to the island.

The fire station is located on Beach Road, not far from the ferry dock and main streets in town.  The station is very cramped for space and plans are to build a new facility a little farther out of town off State Road, possibly in the vicinity of the DPW.  A temporary facility has recently been built near the DPW to house the town's new aerial platform, since it can not fit in the fire station. The aerial will be delivered in Feb-Mar 2006.
