Oak Bluffs is one of the oldest departments on the Island protecting a very congested and historic town, with a major waterfront.

The fire department has approximately 80 call members. The EMS rescue squad has approximately 35 members, some of whom are also members of the fire department.  All EMS personnel are EMTs, about 6 are also Paramedics.  While the fire department is all call, there are about 6 fulltime EMS personnel, that along with other members provide day coverage of usually 3 EMT-Bs and 1 EMT-P.  1/2006

Peter Forend new fire chief July 1, 2007 replacing long time chief Dennis Alley.
