On arrival, first due Engine
826 found heavy fire coming from the roof of the occupied multiple dwelling. Evacuations were in progress and assisted by fire fighters. A third alarm was transmitted. Hyannis made an attack with deckguns from two engines and a master stream from Tower 829. Several handlines were also put in service. As mutual aid units arrived and went to work, a fourth alarm was transmitted. Ultimately 12 engines, 5 ladders, a heavy rescue, and numerous other apparatus with approximately 75 personnel operated. At its height, 2 guns and 3 ladder pipes operated in addition to several handlines which effectively contained the fire in about an hour. The State Fire Marshal's Incident Support Unit (ISU) came down from Stow to assist in the investigation phase of the fire. |
