Portland, OR Fireboat 6
"David Campbell"
The largest and oldest of Portland's fireboats is the "David
Campbell."
Also known as Fireboat 6, it is kept in a boathouse behind Station 6
at 3660 NW Front Avenue, in Portland's NW Industrial area
along the Willamette River.
Built in 1927, the Campbell is 87' 6" in length, 20' 6" beam
It can pump over 12,000 gpm with a variety of deck monitors.
Truly an "old school" fireboat, the Campbell's classic polished brass
and well painted fittings are still in fully operational condition.
This is the second vessel to carry the name.
The original "David Campbell" was built in 1912.
It was 125 long, 27' beam, and 9' draft and was powered by steam.
That boat served the city for about 13 years as the Campbell.
It was later renamed "Chief."
David Campbell was a Fire Chief who was killed in the line of duty
on June 26, 2011 while fighting a fire at a Union Oil facility.
Thank you to Station 6 members who showed off this beautiful boat!

Walking into a boathouse and seeing such a classic nearly 90 year old fireboat was an experience.
