FIRE STATION PLAN

ONSET FIRE STATION PROJECT
Onset Fire District has had a fire station in the center of the village for over 100 years.

The old original station was built in the early 1900s. It was replaced by the current station in the 1970s. Apparatus ran out the front and rear of the station with 3 bays each side and office space in between, as well as dispatch Fire Alarm. As apparatus of the 1970s began to be replaced, it was clear that a new facility was needed.

In 2017, Onset Fire District voters approved construction of a new station. At the meeting, a motion cut the approved budget by nearly half to about $8 Million.  Leadership had to go back to the drawing board to find ways to make it possible to build a station. The property owned by the district north of Route 6 and near the Water Department was chosen after attempts to do some land swaps in the village center failed to get approval.

The land was cleared and prepared in 2019.
Construction on the new Station began in Spring 2020.

July 2021, Construction appears to be completed. All construction equipment off grounds, apparatus floors completed, and landscaping done. Move-in should be coming soon!

October 7, 2021. Onset Fire Department moved into the new station in September 2021. All apparatus and equipment was moved over to the new station and the old East Central Ave station and Water Department station are no longer used by the Onset FD. The new station is nothing fancy. Much of the originally planned and needed space had to be cut due to a huge budget cut.

NEW ONSET FIRE STATION
(Approved 2017 - Under Construction 2020-2021)

The site of the new station has been cleared and prepared for future construction
as of Dec 2019.

The Onset Fire District voters approved a new fire station on May 15, 2017.
The proposed $13.9 M request was amended at the meeting approving only
$8 Million for the project, forcing the plans to go back to the drawing board.

The new station is planned for a plot near the water department facility
on Sand Pond Road north of Route 6.

The present station has been in the heart of Onset village forever.
The 5 Central Ave station was built in 1950 next to the older
original station. The station has 6 bays, but is not well suited for
larger apparatus including the departments most recent ladder truck.

March 2020

The planning to build a new Onset Fire Station began and went to District meeting
in 2017.  The vote passed, but the budget was nearly cut in half resulting in a need
to redo much of what had been planned. The new station would move out of Onset
center to a property north of Route 6
