LITTLE CREEK, DE

We spent the night in the Dover area and started out the next day along the Delaware shore in
a pretty thick fog. We traveled along the shore again finding several stations and boats on our
way north.  The weather stayed overcast and it rained a few times but we still accomplished
several goals along the way.

LEIPSIC, DE

Another small community on the shore with a small fire boat.

ODESSA, DE

PORT PENN, DE

Port Penn FD is a small department that operates several pieces of apparatus and a boat.

DELAWARE CITY, DE

The community of Delaware City is located on the eastern end of the Chesapeake and Delaware
Canal which shortens the trip from the Philadelphia area to the Baltimore area.
Delaware City operates a new fire boat which replaced their previous boat that
sunk in an accident during a response.

HOLLOWAY TERRACE, DELAWARE

The northern industrial areas around Wilmington are protected by a number of departments.
Located on the western side of the I-295 Delaware Memorial Bridges are the Holloway Terrace
and New Castle fire departments. The Holloway Terrace VFD operates fire, EMS, and marine
apparatus as well as some regional equipment.

WESTVILLE, NJ

On the western side of New Jersey across from the Philadelphia, PA area
is the community of Westville that operates a unique little fire boat in addition to other
fire and EMS apparatus.

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ

Another department across the river from Phily is Gloucester City, NJ.
The department operates a couple boats including a former Camden, NJ boat.

Hampton Lakes VFD, NJ

We cut across the middle of New Jersey to get back out towards the eastern shore.
Along the way our curiosity about the New Jersey Forest Fire Service led us to
one of the central control points for the state's forest fire division.
Located near the intersection of Route 70 and Route 72 is the Brendan Byrne Park
where much apparatus is stored and repaired.

New Jersey has hundreds of thousands of acres of forest lands known as pine barrens
which occupy much of central New Jersey and present unique fire problems.
A large fleet of state owned fire apparatus are maintained in addition to local
community apparatus to battle fires in the area. We got a great tour of the facilities
and some of the New Jersey style forestry trucks.

A new truck being built.

Back in the "bone yard" are a number of former apparatus

A photo of all the state apparatus during the 60's or 70's on the office wall.

TOM'S RIVER, NJ

After a night in Tom's River, about mid way up the Jersey shore, we continued up the
eastern shore checking out a few stations along the way.

Robyn spent many summers as a child in the shore community of Mantoloking, NJ.
Her old summer home fell victim to Hurricane Sandy.

BAY HEAD, NJ

POINT PLEASANT, NJ

JERSEY CITY, NJ

EMPTY SKY MEMORIAL

The folks in New Jersey lost a lot of family and friends on September 11th, 2001.
The Empty Sky memorial is located in Jersey City across from lower Manhattan.

We made it home safely once again after a nice visit to the shore and more.
