Eastham Firefighters were assisted by firefighters from across the Cape
as they battled
a 3 Alarm fire at 10 Locust Road, along Route 6 in Eastham. The
2 story house, about
40' x 60', balloon frame construction, dates back to the 1800s.
Heavy dark smoke was
coming from 2 chimneys on arrival of the Eastham Chief Glen Olson.

Eastham
does not have a municipal water system. A tanker shuttle
operation was established early. A flow
of over 1000 gpm was achieved eventually.

As conditions worsened within minutes of arrival, a 2nd alarm was
transmitted bringing mutual aid to the
scene from several communities. It was soon discovered that the floor had
already burned away on the
first floor and operations were limited to an exterior defensive attack.
The building was unoccupied.

Firefighters worked hard to keep the fire from spreading. The
construction, limited water supply, and extent of the
fire however made the battle difficult.
