OLD ANTHONY'S CUMMAQUID INN
At approximately 18:25 hrs on Sunday November 3,
2024
a caller located on Sandy Neck reported flames visible across
the harbor. The Barnstable Fire Department was already on
the road and began investigating.
Shortly after, Yarmouth Fire
Department got a report of a
structure fire in Yarmouthport.
Soon, it was determined that the old
Anthony's Cummaquid Inn
at 2 Route 6A on the Yarmouth-Barnstable town line was burning.
Early reports stated flames were 100' in the clear night sky
and could be seen for miles.
The structure was fully involved on
arrival
and a Defensive Exterior Operation was initiated.
A SECOND ALARM was transmitted soon after arrival.
The large wooden structure was built
back in the early 1900's.
It was very well known and popular for years, but had been
vacant for decades and was in poor condition.
Fire crews laid several large
diameter hose lines from Route 6A
via two driveways that looped in front of the complex.
The Yarmouth Ladder Tower and the Barnstable Ladder Truck
were setup for master streams. Engines from Yarmouth and
Barnstable fed several handlines and master streams.
Crews continued to work through the
night to extinguish the fire.
No reported injuries.
