HYANNIS HARBOR HOTEL
The Hyannis Fire Department received an automatic fire alarm for
the Hyannis Harbor Hotel at 213 Ocean Street at about 14:30 hrs
on Sunday April 25, 2021. Car 3, Engine 6, and Tower 1 responded
and had NOTHING SHOWING on arrival. The hotel was occupied.
Temperatures in the 40's with rain and a brisk wind.

Upon investigation, a light smoke condition was encountered in
the basement. The full 1st Alarm assignment was transmitted.
Conditions quickly changed and a Working Fire was struck,
quickly followed by a 2nd Alarm as smoke thickened.

The fire had gone up through the walls and into the attic
cockloft space where it intensified and soon burned through
the roof. Heavy smoke conditions and large volumes of fire
spread quickly and it looked as though the fire would spread
uncontrolled. Additional help came with 3rd, 4th, and 5th
Alarm assignments being struck.

Heavy fire was observed coming through the roof from the street side
while thick smoke obscured much of the building as firefighters
setup 2 Tower Ladders and the COMM Aerial ladder pipe
on the rear parking lot side of the building.

--------

Of note: The response to this fire included at least 9 departments
to the fire including Hyannis, COMM, Yarmouth, Barnstable,
West Barnstable, Cotuit, Dennis, Mashpee, and Sandwich.

The vacancies in fire stations that came to the scene are usually
refilled by coverage / move-up assignments by other departments.
This fire activated 19 or the 20 Cape Cod fire departments
(only missing Provincetown) and at least 4 departments from
Plymouth County. Some apparatus made multiple moves to
meet the needs of the entire County.

Also of interest, the Providence Canteen Service provided a
truck to rehab and serve firefighters once the work was done.

-----------

The Hyannis Harbor Hotel at 213 Ocean Street is no stranger to fires.
Back on August 23, 1995 at about 1430 hours when it was known as
the Hyannis Harborview Hotel, a 4 Alarm Fire heavily damaged
the 3 story section of the hotel. At least 1 firefighter was injured.

Once again, on the evening of November 28, 2016, fire
struck the building going to a 3rd Alarm.
