   Fire Departments                 PRINT
   The "Islands" refer to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.  Martha's Vineyard (Dukes County) has 6 fire departments 
     and Nantucket (Nantucket County) has one.  The Elizabeth Islands (Town of Gosnold) have minimal fire protection
     and no formal radio system. There are also airport ARFF units at each Island airport.  Dukes County Sheriff's Dept.
     Communications Center at the Airport dispatches for all departments.

    DUKES COUNTY COMMUNICATIONS
    In June 2021, a new Digital Radio System went into service. All Fire, EMS, and Police are on the system.
    The FCC frequencies below are listed for Dukes County Sheriff's Department issued 10-25-2019.

   EMS Radio System
 

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
      Emergency Medical Services (EMS) on Cape Cod and across Massachusetts use the following frequencies for Ambulance to Hospital communications. The frequency use is controlled and assigned by several regional CMED (Centralized Medical Emergency Dispatch) centers. Barnstable CMED (the first in the state in 1974) is operated by the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office communications center. Initial calling and hailing of CMED is on Channel 4 (Statewide).
      Barnstable CMED is the control center for 4 hospitals:
Cape Cod Hospital CCH in Hyannis,
Falmouth Hospital, in Falmouth,
Tobey Hospital in Wareham,
Martha's Vineyard Hospital in Oak Bluffs
      All "patches" to these hospitals go thru Barnstable CMED on 4 patch channels (2, 5, 7, or 8). Additional channels are utilized in neighboring regions and are also listed.

      NOTE: Effective January 1, 2013
     All CMED channels and frequencies in Massachusetts will utilize the new required "narrow-band" frequencies as indicated in Red below. Note that Med 5 is now longer used in Barnstable CMED.  The following channels will be used by Barnstable CMED:

     Med 4-N    Calling & Hailing Channel
     Med 7-N    Hospital Patches
     Med 8-2     Hospital Patches

     The PL code (CTCSS) for Barnstable CMED was 173.8.  It will be 114.8 after Jan 1, 2013
     The PL Code (CTCSS) for Plymouth CMED will be 103.5  after Jan 1, 2013.
     The PL Code (CTCSS) for Bristol County CMED will be 127.3 as of Jan 1, 2013.
     The PL Code (CTCSS) for Boston CMED will be 136.5 as of Jan 1, 2013.
