The Barnstable County Forest Fire Service replaced the original 1939 Ford No.1 in 1957. The first of the second generation County brush breakers utilized a 1957 Ford 10 wheel, all wheel drive chassis. It was built by the Maxim Motors Company in Middleborough, Mass. The new truck had a 250 gpm pump and carried 800 gallons of water.  Its design continued to improve after years of experience. A cowling behind the cab provided crew members with some protection while allowing them to operate hose lines from behind the cab. The truck also carried ground ladders accessed from the rear of the truck, as it would respond to building fires as well as brush fires.
 

     The new No.1 is shown pushing over trees during early testing or training.

     The 1957 Ford County No.1, also known as C-15, served out of the North Falmouth Fire Station for its 14 year County career from 1957 until 1971, when it was replaced by a third generation 1971 International / Thibault brush breaker No.1.
 

     After its County service in North Falmouth, the 1957 Ford made its way to the Eastham Fire Department where it would serve from 1971 to about 1977. This resource provided much needed water in the Town of Eastham that did not have a water system.
 

     The old 1957 Ford No.1, having served the County from Falmouth and the Town of Eastham for a total of about 30 years, ended up at the "Chicken Coop" in West Barnstable in the early 1980s where it remained out of service, stripped of much of its equipment.
