APPARATUS - BARNSTABLE FIRE DISTRICT 1967 - B-204 - 1952 Ford COE/Starck 250/800 Brush Breaker (was TOB 216 1952-1967) 1978 - B-204 - 1952 REO Mil 6x6/Veterino 500/1000 Brush Breaker |
The Barnstable Fire District took advantage of the opportunity when this brush breaker became surplus in 1967. The 1952 Ford had previously operated as the Town of Barnstable Forest Fire Department's Brush Breaker 216, stationed in Osterville. It was all wheel drive, had about a 250 gpm pump, and carried about 800 gallons of water. It would serve in Barnstable village for a number of years.

In about 1978, the Barnstable Fire District built a new brush breaker. Using a 1952 REO former military 6x6 chassis and some local talent, they built this Breaker 204. It had about a 250 gpm pump and 1000 gallon tank. The truck was painted a lime-yellow color as was popular at the time. It was the only of Barnstable's apparatus to ever be painted the color. The truck was nick named the "Iron Lion" and would go on to serve for about 10 years (1978-1988). Barnstable got rid of the truck and it went on to serve in Nantucket for a number of years as well.
