ABOUT
|
Barnstable County Forest Fire Service bought another Maxim custom
brush breaker in 1960. The new truck No.3 was very similar to the
1958 Maxim, with a 250 gpm pump and 800 gallon tank. The truck was
assigned to the Orleans Fire Department. The 1960 Maxim County breaker No.3 C-13 is shown in front of the new combination fire and police station on Eldridge Parkway in Orleans, along with the 1953 FWD Engine 2 and 1966 Mack C Engine 1. This breaker would serve in Orleans until about 1982 when the County Forest Fire Service dissolved. At that time, Orleans apparently declined to take on ownership. The truck then went on to serve in Eastham for several years.
The 1960 Maxim former C-13 is shown in Eastham. The Eastham Fire Department added some teeth to the front push bar giving the truck a new look.
It would serve Eastham from about 1982 to 1988.
In about 1988, the 1960 Maxim C-13 left Eastham Fire Department and joined its 1963 Maxim cousin C-12 (Brewster's B-235) in Brewster. It became Breaker 255. It would serve Brewster until about 1996.

Barnstable County replaced the 1951 Ford / Robinson brush breaker No. 3 in 1963 with another Maxim custom 800 gallon brush breaker assigned to the Orleans Fire Station. This truck was very similar to the 1958 West Barnstable and 1960 Dennis County brush breakers. It served in Orleans until about the early 1980s, possibly around 1982 when the Barnstable County Forest Fire Service ceased to operate. It then went to the Eastham Fire Department for several years and finally served as Brewster Fire Department's Breaker 255 until retirement around 2000. |

In the early 1980's the 1963 Maxim brush breaker C-13 which had been assigned to Orleans left Orleans and went to work with the Eastham Fire Department for a number of years. It replaced the 1957 Ford / Maxim former County No. 1 that had served in Falmouth and came to Eastham around 1971 when a new breaker was delivered to Falmouth. The 1963 Maxim was given a unique look with some sharp teeth being painted on the front push bars. This truck remained in Eastham for a few years and then finished out its career around 2000 in Brewster as Breaker 255. |
