SANDWICH - 1932 Ford Brush Truck![]() The Sandwich Volunteer Fire Department, operating out of an ivy covered garage behind the Daniel Webster Inn, had several apparatus. Among them, is a 1932 Ford fire engine identified on door as "Forest Fire Dept." This truck also has some bars protecting it while operating at brush and woods fires. This could be one of the first trucks built in the brush breaker era to be so designed. In the middle, is the 1938 Ford / Buffalo brush breaker 3 that would be known as 143. To the left is the Sandwich Engine 2 1947 Diamond T pumper. Below is also the 1931 Ahrens Fox mid mount pumper Engine 1.

SANDWICH - 1938 Ford / Buffalo Brush Breaker 3 (143)
The 1938 Ford brush breaker built by Buffalo was powered by a V8 85 hp. It had only rear wheel drive. The tank carried about 1000 gallons. The truck was somewhat under powered, but performed at many fires over about 27 years.
The 1938 brush breaker was replaced by the 1965 Dodge power wagon / Maynard brush breaker 3 (143).
