MATTAPOISETT FIRE STATION PROJECT
The Town of Mattapoisett, MA is located in southwestern Plymouth County between Marion, Rochester, and Fairhaven just over the Bristol County line. The town has a large harbor opening into Buzzards Bay near the west end of the Cape Cod Canal.

The town is about 24.2 square miles and has a population around 6,379.

The Mattapoisett Fire Department has operated from its single fire station for some 66 years, since it was built around 1954. The station is located at 26 County Road at the corner of Barstow Street. The 3 bay, 2 story, brick and wood station is home to the department which is comprised of about 30 personnel, mostly paid on call.

Apparatus currently includes 3 pumpers, a forestry truck, a rescue truck, 2 boats, 2 cars, and 2 support trailers. Some apparatus is kept outside year round because the station can not house it.

Town voters approved a new fire station at the 2018 Town Meeting. The budget approved a $9.275 facility, of about 16,000 square feet to be located adjacent to the Mattaposett Police Station, just up the street at 64 County Road. The station will have 4 and a half bays and the facilities required in modern fire stations.

Ground was broken on the new facility on June 30, 2020 and work began on the station. Construction is expected to take 12 - 14 months with expected completion around early summer of 2021.

Construction continued through 2020 - 2021. The new station was dedicated in early December 2021 and apparatus moved in soon after. The sign on the front of the old station was taken down soon after the move was made to the new station.

NEW MATTAPOISETT FIRE STATION

The site of the new station was cleared and ground broken on June 30, 2020.
The new 16,000 square foot structure is expected to be ready in early summer 2021.

The new station was completed and occupied in December 2021 following a ribbon cutting
ceremony in early December. The new station is located at 62 County Road in Mattapoisett
at the corner of Hubbard's Way, adjacent to the Mattapoisett Police Station. The station has
4 full drive through bays and a 5th single bay. It has a number of bunk rooms, a kitchen,
large meeting room, administrative offices, an exercise room, and other facilities to support
the 35+ member department.
