FUTURE EDGARTOWN FIRE STATION

Edgartown is the town on the eastern end of Martha's Vineyard. It is approximately 27.0 Sq Miles with a year round population of about 1,168. The main part of town is on the Vineyard Island side of Edgartown harbor, while the Island of Chappaquidick, accessible only by the infamous "On Time" Ferry, is on the eastern-most end of Martha's Vineyard.

Edgartown Fire Department was established around 1836 following a major fire. Several fire stations have served since, and a good deal of the Edgartown FD history is preserved in a Fire Museum next to the present main fire station.

The main fire station is located on Pease Point Way in town. The current station was built around 1966 as a call fire station. Bays to house ambulances were added in the 1980s and another renovation to support minimal on duty staffing (EMTs) around 2015. The station lacks many of the required spaces needed for larger apparatus and on duty staffing.

A small, 1 bay wooden fire station was built on Chappy in the early 1980s. That station was replaced by a new 3 bay fire station in 2007.

In 2019, Edgartown began looking at options to upgrade or replace their main station to support future needs.

In April 2023, Edgartown voters approved the construction and funding for a new 14,000 Sq Ft, $21.5 Million fire station to be built on the site of the current fire station on Pease Point Way next to the Edgartown Police Department. The station will be about double the size of the present station.
