New Chilmark Fire Station 2023

The Town of Chilmark on Martha's Vineyard has been looking for years
at some options for either updating or replacing their humble little fire
station next to the Town Hall. In 2018 the town was looking at specific
sites and options.

In the Fall of 2019, Chilmark authorized some funding to develop plans
to raze and replace the main station at Beatlebung Corner with a new facility.
At the same time, the Tri-Town Ambulance, serving West Tisbury, Chilmark,
and Aquinnah will be getting a new facility adjacent to the planned fire station.

reflects a 4 bay, wood construction station to replace the
old station on the same site. Funding $11 Million approved at May 2021
Town Meeting.

NOTE
Chilmark went back to a Special Town Meeting on March 26, 2022
to seek an additional $1.2 Million for their Fire Station/EMS Station project.
Bids for the estimated $12.6 Million project came in above what was
previously approved in 2021.

FUTURE CHILMARK FIRE STATION

     Chilmark is a town in the western side of Martha's Vineyard. The town is about 19.1 Sq Miles in area with a population of about 866 (2010) year round residents.
     The Chilmark Fire Department dates back to 1932.
     The main Fire Station built in the 1950's was located next to the Town Hall at Beetlebung Corner, at the crossroads of Menemsha Road, Middle Road, and South Road.
     The old station, a basic wooden structure, had 3 small bays for fire apparatus. A single bay, attached structure was added to house the Chilmark ambulance.
     Chilmark was looking at options for replacing the old fire station for years, with a formalized process under way in 2018. In the Fall of 2019, Chilmark authorized funding to go forward with plans for a new station.
     After looking at various options for relocating the fire station, it was determined that the present location was best suited for a new station.
     Work was expected to begin in 2020, but was delayed.
     In May 2021, Chilmark voters approved $11 Million to move forward with a new Fire Station and to construct a new Tri-Town Ambulance station in Chilmark as well. The Tri-Station Ambulance facility is located behind, a short walk, from the Town Hall and Fire Station.
    The old Fire Station was torn down on March 28, 2022 and construction was begun on the new station. Apparatus was relocated at various places around town during the construction process.
    In September 2022, a Special Town meeting approved an additional sum of $1.2Million to help complete the project.
    The new Chilmark Fire Station and new Tri-Town Ambulance facilities were opened in July 2023.
    Our first visit to Chilmark was in June 2024.

NEW CHILMARK FIRE STATION
The new Chilmark Fire Station was approved in 2021.
Construction was completed and move i was in July 2023.
