FALMOUTH HOUSE FIRE
COLLINS ROAD
February 24, 2013
Two house fires occurred in Falmouth within an hour on
Sunday afternoon February 24, 2013.
The first fire damaged a home on Plum Hollow Road in East Falmouth. The smoky
fire damaged the basement
of a 1-1/2 story home. It was quickly brought under control by Falmouth and
Mashpee firefighters.
Coverage apparatus was still en route to cover Falmouth stations from
Cotuit, MMR, and Bourne when another fire was reported on Collins Road near
Carriage Shop Road
in East Falmouth. A Falmouth engine and Falmouth Ladder 26 were quickly released
from the Plum Hollow
fire and responded to the second fire, arriving with a Cotuit Engine, MMR
Engine, and a Mashpee Engine.
Fire was showing from two windows on the first floor upon arrival. Crews
advanced several hand lines
and were able to contain the fire within a few minutes. Smoke and heat damage
were extensive
and a pet perished in the fire.
The mutual aid system was put to the test with these two fires
and a number of medical calls at the same
time requiring help from around the Upper Cape to assist Falmouth.
