The structure was located at 626 Craigville Beach Road behind the
Craigville Sub & Pizza shop in Centerville. The unoccupied, 2
story house was approximately 80% involved on arrival of first due
companies. The COMM quint ladder truck 307 was the first to arrive
and initiated its attack with a 2-1/2" handline. A 4" supply line
was brought in by next in engine 303. The ladder was set up for
elevated stream operations and additional 2-1/2" and 1-3/4" handlines
were deployed. The defensive attack was hampered by live wires and
a sudden collapse of a wall and chimney early in the battle. There
were no injuries. Approximately 30 personnel responded with 4
engines, the quint, and an ambulance. One of the engines was
Hyannis E823 which operated at the scene. Engines from Barnstable,
West Barnstable, and Cotuit covered vacant COMM stations for
approximately 4 hours. Cause is under investigation and no
estimate on the loss has been announced. Interestingly, a garage
located on the same property was destroyed by fire at about 1:00 AM on
April 16, 2005. Photos Britt Crosby
