COMM FIRE
COMM Fire received calls for a fire at
the Cape Cod Animal Hospital located at the intersection
of Osterville - West Barnstable Road and Race Lane in Marstons Mills around 2000
hours on
Monday, March 9, 2009. On arrival, crews faced heavy fire conditions with
exposure problems
in the large wooden animal hospital, occupied by a number of cats and dogs.
Initial efforts to rescue
animals and deploy hoselines, including the master stream from Ladder 307,
occupied first alarm crews.
The second alarm was struck shortly after arrival, and a third alarm struck
minutes later, bringing
apparatus and approximately 100 personnel from several surrounding departments.
The fire burned
for several hours and crews remained on scene through the night. While several
animals were lost,
no personnel or civilians were injured.
