COMM FD
Helps Resident Celebrate
100th Birthday

HAPPY 100th
It is not often that an organization is able to recognize and
help celebrate the 100th Birthday of one of its former members.

The COMM Fire Department joined with family and friends to
help make Ben Chase's 100th Birthday a little more special.

Mr Chase is a longtime Centerville resident.
He served his country in the US Navy during WWII.
He was aboard the Escort Aircraft Carrier "Block Island" on May 29, 1944
when the ship was hit by torpedoes near the Canary Islands.
It was the only US Carrier to be sunk in the Atlantic Ocean.

Upon returning to the USA, he worked a long career with the
Telephone company.

He served about 10 years with the Nantucket Fire Department and
then after moving to Centerville, joined the C-O FD in 1960
working with fire chiefs Charles Hallett and Stanley Buckler.

COMM Brought out all the apparatus staffed by on duty and off duty
members who all celebrated the special occasion.
Among those attending was retired Fire Chief John Farrington,
current Fire Chief Mike Winn, and future COMM Fire Chief Patrick Hill.

Congratulations Mr Chase!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
