AMBULANCE ACCIDENTS & PROBLEMS

In what has been a bad year for vehicle accidents on the Cape, two more ambulances have been involved in accidents and are out of service long term.

The first was Mashpee R362 which was in a collision at Rte.28 & Walton Ave, in Hyannis last week while en route to CCH.  There were no serious injuries but the patient had to be transported by a Hyannis ambulance.  Mashpee personnel we bumped up a bit as well. This leaves Mashpee with one in service ambulance during the busiest time of the year.

The second accident occurred on Aug 30 when Yarmouth R56 was involved in a crash on Rte.6A near the Bass River Rod & Gun Club at about 1215 hrs.  The Jaws were required to extricate the operator of the other vehicle who was transported with non-life threatening injuries to CCH.  No YFD personnel were hurt.  The ambulance is out of service long term.

On March 11, 2005 an Orleans ambulance R174 was involved in a serious crash in Yarmouth while en route to CCH that injured several people including the patient being transported and rescuers.

West Barnstable Fire Department's 1992 International / Horton Type I ambulance R-293 is also out of service with a major engine problem.  It is expected to be out of service for several weeks.  Since this is West Barnstable's only ambulance, mutual aid is being called on all rescue calls in WB.  Sept 2005.
