HYANNIS BOAT RESCUE
KALMUS BEACH
Monday  April 29, 2019  Approx 1730 hrs

The Hyannis Fire Department responded to a water rescue in Hyannis between Kalmus Beach
and the Hyannisport Breakwater. Two windsurfers were taking advantage of the windy conditions
when one fell off his board and it drifted away in the wind, leaving him well off shore. His partner
lost sight of him and was able to get someone on shore to call 911.  She then went back to search
for him, while Hyannis responded with their Boston Whaler to Kalmus and another crew got the
Fire Rescue Boat 808 under way.

The wind and waves made launching the small boat a challenge but soon the crew was responding
to the located surfer.  Everyone was safely returned to shore after the dramatic rescue.
Great job by Hyannis FD and Barnstable Police in the joint efforts to locate and save
these individuals who were uninjured.
